We arrived at the Fitzroy River Lodge & Caravan Park which is just past town and over the River. The town itself gave us the creeps and rightly so because when we arrived at the caravan park they gave us a written briefing on the danger in town. See pic below.
Fitzroy Crossing has recently been experiencing major crime by the locals. It was explained that these are mainly young pre-teens of Aboriginals who go around and rob people after dark. We had first heard of this in Derby and so we were on guard. Consequently, we did not sleep much at the caravan park. There were only 3 vans there which was a shame because the place is immaculate. Gardens are well presented, they have a lovely pool at the main accommodation which we could use and the restaurant was 5 star. We ate there. The surroundings were beautiful as you can see below. It was clean, spacious and the staff were nice. Unfortunately my pasta was a little dry. Hubby's curry looked better.
It made us sad for the owner as this is clearly a business that will fail as most reviews about Fitzroy Crossing mention not to stay there but to fuel up quickly and just drive by. Btw, in the toilets at the caravan park it warns people to vacate their car and lock it when paying for fuel due to car hijacking, even with someone inside the car. Now that is bad.

TURKEY CREEK ROADHOUSE
We felt safer here.
This place has good reviews on Wiki Camps. I won't be giving it a raving review. The pool was out of action, there was a loo that was clearely blocked and looked like it had been that way for a while, yuk! And I did not use the BBQ because it was dirty and covered with ants.
We had a visit by wild horses during the night. See pic below.

DRIVING GREAT NORTHERN HIGHWAY
We were glad when we finally got to Kununurra after driving long days with nothing much to look at. Well except for funny creek names and a ton of skinny one way bridges.
