Hubby had to work Christmas Day, so I decided to join him in the bus to pick up a bunch of walkers that had walked 6 days from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair.
I decided to take one of my art lenses and use it for the day. Lensbaby Sweet 50. This lens produces photos with a sweet spot of focus in the middle and blurred around the outside.
We drove through Cressy and headed up the mountain to Poatina lookout.

POATINA
~~oOo~~
Poatina is surrounded by what is called the Great Western Tiers Range. Here the view over the valley is magnifiant on a good clear day. There is a hydro power sub station in which big pipes pass through and down the mountain side.
The dirt road in off the highway is not easy to spot so keep an eye out for it.

ARTHURS LAKE

Continuing on our drive, we arrived in the Lakes District of Tasmania. This is very high up and snows often. That is why the road posts are orange in colour.
There are 2 ways to get to Lake St Clair. The other way takes you through Pine Lake and Liawenee which is well known as being the coldest place in Tasmania. See my other pages on these places by clicking the links to the right.
The Lakes District is a well known trout fishing area. Many Tasmanian locals have fishing shacks here. See them on my Cramps Bay page.

MIENA

Miena, over half way there, has a population of 127.
The big hotel here is busy all of the time. And no wonder. It overlooks the big lake, is cosy and wecoming and I can only just imagine how nice it would be here in winter.
We didn't take any photos this time. I took these 2 photos when we brought young Jesse and Ellen up here in 2023.

LITTLE PINE LAGOON
~~oOo~~
It's all about fly-fishing here. Because it is so high up, the surrounding vegetation is either very low or when it gets taller, it does off. Consequently the deadwood in the hill in the background made for some nice colour changing photos.
Pitty I could only snap them from in the car with my phone.
We saw a house in the middle of nowhere. You'd have to be a tough dude to live here. And we also saw a caravan in the scrub.

BRONTE PARK
~~oOo~~
It's difficult to pinpoint places here as there are lakes and creeks that don't have a name on the map.
I'll just call this Bronte Park as this was where we crossed over this running creek.
And we hit a dirt road that took us into Lake St Clair.
Last picture here I was playing with in-camera composite photos.

LAKE ST CLAIR
~~oOo~~
So I took up hubby's offer to come with him to pick up the walkers as he also suggested that we have a shared lunch at the Restaurant. It was open on Christmas day.
But the major reason for me was to play with my Lensbaby Sweet 50 lens. I din't have much time to do this, but manage to get a couple of nice shots.
The landscape photos below, I took when Jesse & Ellen were here.
Sorry, no pix of restaurant or food, but I can say that it was expensive. Pizza was real nice, but I wouldn't drink wine - $17 a small glass! Daylight robbery.
