Echuca, home of Paddlesteamers, The Murray River & Cockies. More about that later.

MATHOURA
~~oOo~~
The Bra Fence.
Click the above link for the full story. In memory of Wendy who died of breast cancer in 2017.
We gave our donation in the little donation box.
Mathoura is also the home of the big Cod. The most ugliest Big Thing I've seen. But anyway, I had to ask hubby to stop so that I could get a pic.

GULPA CREEK
~~oOo~~
This was a great day out. Not far from Mathoura we visited Reeds Beds Bird Hide at Gulpa Creek, a hidden gem.
It's an easy board walk to the hide with these twisty placards of the various birds you can expect to see. When you twist the placards they make the bird sound. That was pretty cool. There are also free BBQs here as well.
There were no birds near the hide. They were all out on the marsh plain. We had fun snapping away at the pelicans. Well worth a visit.

ECHUCA
~~oOo~~
Echuca is a tourist mecca full of charm, quaint gift shops, horse & carriage rides etc.
We stayed at the NRMA Caravan Park which is an easy walk to the Echuca Port. This park is expensive at $54 a night but has all of the mod-cons including large toilet & shower blocks, a pool and even a water playground for the kids. When we arrived it was full of people and kids being school holidays and there were camel rides in the park. The next night they had a movie viewing night in the playground. It was all going off.

A PADDLESTEAMER STORY
~~oOo~~
We went on the famous Emmylou Paddlesteamer. She is soon to be replaced this year by the largest paddlesteamer in the southern hemisphere, PS Murray Princess. Emmylou is 40 years old and full of charm.
We had a lovely quiet cruise up the river complete with a 3 course dinner. Food was ok. My pannacotta was the best and normally I don't do afters. Hubby's chicken was very bland and had no gravy or sauce. My fish tasted muddy in parts. The asparagus was the best on the plate.
Being the boating and cruise queen I rated this evening 3 stars on Google. All they needed to do was a better job on the food and have some sort of entertainment and I would have given 5 stars. They could have at least had some nice background music. A tacky guitar or concertina singing Aussi bush songs would have really added to this and made it a night to remember.
Anyway, when in Echuca, you have to experience it. I probably should have booked us on the lunch winery or brewery paddlesteamer.

The Murray River is pretty much the border of Victoria and New South Wales. So we crossed over the border and back a few times during this part of our journey.
