Newstead, Castlemaine & Muldon

NEWSTEAD RACECOURSE $10 CAMP

This part of our 2nd leg of the Lap takes us through central Victoria.  In fact Newstead we hear is the centre of Victoria.

We decided to spend a few days off grid to check out the caravan battery situation amongst other stuff.  Turns out that hubby is happy that we can live comfortably for around 4 days without the mod cons of life.
😁

I have Newstead Racecouse  a big 5 Stars on Google review due to the fact that it is very well run, only costs $10 for the night and has clean toilets & showers, an outdoor camp kitchen and there is also power in the toilets for your small hand held devices which I felt was a nice touch.

Newstead town is only a couple of k's away and has an IGA, couple of small cafes and a pub which we found is friendly and the beers are cheap.  We like to give back a few bucks to Country towns that look after us Grey Nomads.

CASTLEMAINE

~~oOo~~

Castlemaine, a further 20 minutes up the road is quite a large town.

We visited twice.  The first time we found the Love Shack Brewery, also my favourite Kareoke song.
😉

That was a surprise as hubby had tasted the pale ale at Dalesford and quite enjoyed it.  So he ordered that again and I had the IPA which was equally good.  We shared a grilled chicken burger and Oh My Goodness! the chicken was to die for!  They had marinated it in what tasted like a good old southern USA smokey marinade.  Another Google 5 stars from me! :)

We also visited the information centre which is well designed with colourful art work and walls full of indigenous art.

The second time we visited Castlemain was because we wanted to get a pizza.  I looked up which place had good pizzas and came across Lola Pizz and Bar located at the Theatre Royal.  How cool.  😀
Here I had a Rose Wine whilst waiting for our takeaway pizza and hubby had a beer.  The Rose Wine was on tap, something we haven't seen since Vancouver, Canada.

An interesting little historic village full of lovely old architecture and quite a few old cars too.
🤩

Tookie kept people entertained outside of the old Lollie Shop.
