West Wyalong & Weethalle

WEST WYALONG

~~oOo~~

There's not much to see in West Wyalong but ACE Caravan Park was really good so they get a big 5 Star Google review from us.

Bird life was great.  Tookie wasn't real sure but he got his twice daily pat on the camp chair with hubby so he was happy enough.  When we arrived, there was a sign on reception that said to find a site, make yourself at home and we will catch up later.  Everything here was well attended to.  You couldn't fault it.  From the beautiful painting on the facilities to the old buggy & Furphy Water Cart to the rose gardens surrounding reception, to the fully equipped outdoor camp kitchens to the crystal clear blue pool, we loved every minute here.

Behind the Caravan Park is a goods train line.  I hadn't heard any trains until the day before we left and just happened to be outside when I heard the train whistle.  He blew it again as I was taking the photo below.  Thank goodness I didn't jump and ruin the photo.
😜

It was hot!  Very hot!  We had the air-con cranking and visited the pool on a regular basis during the day.

We made friends with a lovely lady called Chris from Bribie Island.  Unfortunately, her car wasn't in good shape so she was waiting for Australia Day holiday to pass before getting her car looked at.  So we visited each other regularly at the pool and had some great discussions.  Chris said that ACE here was better than the Caravan Park in town.  She had booked into there but they were so rude that she immediately changed locations.  The park in town did not refund her.  Chris was glad for the pool as she didn't have air-con in her Toyota Van.  You can see her van in the pic below, the white one next door to the camp kitchen.

West Wyalong doesn't have a Wollies or Coles, so we did our shop at the IGA.   Got a few bargains so didn't turn out to be too expensive.  I bought a pickled pork roast for $15 and googled how to cook it.  Turns out to be best done the same as corned Silverside roast and very juicy.  That was a good buy.

The Information Centre in town also is the local Liberary.  Not one of the better Information Centres that we have been to, but the building was very modern.  Looks like it is primarily the town Library and they added the Information Centre as an after thought.

There is a Pub just before the town centre.  It has a great piece of art work on.  See pic below.  They were advertising lunch specials for $12 but as we wanted to save on our lunch out expenses, we didn't venture in this time.

WEETHALLE

We drove 40 minutes out to Weethalle early one morning in the hope of getting a morning pic of the Silo Art here.  In hindsight it would have been better for a sunset shot however the sun doesn't set until about 8pm owing to daylight saving.  Something we are not used to, having lived in Western Australia for 23 years.

Anyway, we got out photos.  Weethalle seems to be a dying little town with just a few old buildings and the standard big old pub on the corner.  Quite a few business seem to have shut shop and there is nothing but spider webs decorating the doors and shop windows and the odd bit of tumbleweed caught up at the steps.  Domain.com.au is currently listing 97 properties for sale in Weethalle, most going for less than $1,600 per acre.  This indicates sadly that Weethalle will soon be just a ghost town on the Silo Art Trail.

The old railway station has a gift shop and little old Bank Museum.  We were there too early for opening time.  Although the Bank was small, it's not the smallest Bank in Australia.  You'll find that on my WA Shackleton page.
