Forster & Tuncurry

Ahhh, finally...  Beaches!

😍

This is the part of our trip that I was looking forward to.  There's nothing more invigorating than a dip in the surf.  It has been far too long for us.  Hubby also did the pipi dance (that is where you move your feet in the sand to locate pipis) and pocketed a few to pop into the freezer for fishing.

FORSTER DISCOVERY PARKS

~~oOo~~

We chose the Forster G'Day Park located on Wollamba River at Darawank which is before you get to Tuncury.  I can see why they called themselves Forster Discovery Park and not Darawank Discovery Park lol.

Anyway they only charged us $37 a night whereas if we had have stayed in Tuncurry or Forster, we'd be paying between $50 and $60 per night.  It's only a 20 minute drive into Forster from here and a pleasant drive too so we didn't mind.

The pool was amazing, there is also a water park & peddle carts for the kids, and they have a cafe as well.  As you can see, the river is beautiful at sunset.

BLACK HEAD BEACH

~~oOo~~

This was our closest beach.  Hubby remembers surfing here many moons ago.  We wanted to go for an early swim in the sea pool here.  I was extremely cold so I didn't bother and the surf itself was big so we drove up further to Diamond Beach and had a nice picnic there in the shade.  No pics of Diamond Beach as it was just a long sandy beach with not much to photograph.

CELLITO BEACH OR SANDBAR BEACH

~~oOo~~

This beach was much prettier than Black Head Beach, however there was a rip here so I didn't get fully wet.  The best bit was the boardwalk through a mini rainforest to get to the beach.  We both loved that.

We also spotted a fabulous looking camp ground and drove around to check it out.  Sandbar camping ground and golf course looked amazing.  Seems like in the middle of nowhere, on a dirt track, and they had a ton of powered sites, a shop, the beach and a river as well.  This place would have been packed out over the school holidays we reckon.

FORSTER, TUNCURRY

~~oOo~~

Tuncurry & Forster are separated by a rickety bridge with 1 lane each way traffic.  This causes a huge traffic bottleneck.  I don't see any way around it.  There is no other real location to put in a new bridge.  See the video below.

Tuncurry doesn't have any real tourist shops.  They are all located at Forster.  We did, however get fresh fish and potato scallops in Tuncurry.  The fish was awesome!  Potato Scallops not so good.  And we bought fresh little prawns from the Co-op.  We haven't had any good fresh seafood for years!  So we devoured them and enjoyed every last bit.  Unfortunately, the cost of fresh seafood has gone up extremely.  We couldn't believe the cost of the oysters.  I hope that as we go up the cost more, we can find a good deal for oysters.  We are both hanging for  Kilpatrick Oysters that I make.

I got my shopping fix in the main tourist street in Forster.  Didn't buy anything of course as all the clothes are way too expensive.  But I enjoyed myself checking them out anyway.

As we walked along the foreshore we came across an Australian Big Thing - The Big Turtle.  Well he wasn't real big, but I had to take the obligitory photo anyway.

The Pelicans here are big and fat!  And no wonder why, they have a large choice of fresh seafood.  We enjoyed watching this guy swimming along with the cormorets who were getting the fish for him.

SICILIAN RESTAURANT, FORSTER

~~oOo~~

As I am working one day a week, this has enabled us to bank the extra money to use for little luxuries along the way.  Checking out the Google reviews, I found this Italian Restaurant across the road from Main Beach.  Sicilian delivered the goods for us.  Hubby had a good old Italian Pizza and I couldn't resist the Sicilian muscles.

Well this deserved a 5 Star review.  The only fault I had was that my meal could have done with either more garlic or chili.  I found it a bit bland.  However, I believe that this is the Sicilian style of cooking.  They certainly made up for it with the fine service, meals came out in good timing and were nice and hot, drinks were good, atmosphere & decor nice and with a view of the beach.  We enjoyed our meal here.

MAIN BEACH

~~oOo~~

Main Beach, with it's salt water pool, was across the road from the Sicilian.

Salt water pools seem to be popular around here.  There is also a cafe up the other end called Beach Bums Cafe which is open for morning breakky & coffee as well as lunch and then closes after that.  We reckon they do a roaring trade.

BURGESS BEACH

~~oOo~~

Last day here at Forster, we checked out Burgess Beach.  It looked nice on Google with interesting rocks for photo opportunities and definitely lived up to our expectations.

You couldn't swim here.  The surf was too huge, but I did find a spot to sit on a rock and it wasn't long before I sat in the sand and let the sea water wash over me.  It was very nice indeed.
