MERRIWA
~~oOo~~
We had a long journey today. From Gulgong to Heatherbrae, which is near Newcastle, it is a good 3 1/4hr journey. We changed our plans as son Jesse & Ellen were flying over to Sydney for a UFC Event and of course we couldn't wait to see them again.
Merriwa was a nice place to break up our trip. We parked up next to the Silo Art here which was pretty good and stopped for a cuppa.
The trip from Merriwa to Heatherbrae took us past some of Australia's biggest horse studs. Photo below is of Coolmore Stud at Jerry's Plains. I also managed to capture a couple of shots of classic road workers... doing nothing.

HEATHERBRAE

Pacific Gardens Caravan Park at Heatherbrae isn't really a Caravan Park at all from what we could see. We were greeted with friendly staff who advised us that the park was full and that they could give us an overflow site next to a cabin. No problems. But we were soon to discover that this Caravan Park is going the same way that others have done recently and that is moving from a Caravan Park to a residential Cabin Park. So, stop advertising that you are a Caravan Park.
I was also shocked to learn of the cost they were going to charge us. $52 per night is exhorbitant for a powered overflow site. Plus they wanted to charge $7 for a load of washing and again for drying. Are you kidding?...
Pacific Gardens got a 2 Star Review on Google - 1 star for the nice pool and 1 star for the Chinese Restaurant on site. Yes, they have a Chinese Restaurant. I don't like Chinese food much so all I wanted was chicken and corn soup and fried rice. Well the chicken and corn soup was delish. Not too sweet as some tend to be. The fried rice was bland and didn't have much fried stuff in, but nothing that a few dollops of soy sauce couldn't fix.

SYDNEY

What a big trip from Heatherbrae to Sydney! We drove 25mins to Broadmeadow Station and use the park & ride option. Unfortunately there was track work and they had buses running. It was well done however, with lovely staff on the station who looked after us and made sure we got on the right bus to Gordon near Sydney to change to the train. We didn't have to wait long either. Bus ride was a comfortable 2 1/4 hour jouney. I read a book on the way.
It was wonderful catching up with Jesse & Ellen again. They are good kids. We hope they stay together.
😍
We met at the Rocks where they were staying and walked down to Circular Quay for breakky and to check out the famous Opera House. This was Ellen's first trip to Sydney. Being the first trip to Sydney we suggested that we take the ferry over to Manly. What a lovely day. Unfortunately the food at the Hotel in Manly has gone downhill. We liked it last time, but this time it wasn't that good. Jesse's long term mate from school Kade also came along. It was nice seeing Kade again.
Thanks for the wonderful day guys. We look forward to our next meetup. 💋
