South West Rocks, Nambucca Heads, Scotts Head & Macksville

Trial Bay Front Beach, one of the prettiest beaches in Australia.

More about that later.

BACK CREEK BRIDGE

~~oOo~~

Both hubby and I were impressed with South West Rocks.

The town itself is small but this inlet and surrounding beaches are so pretty.

Even the caravan park that we stayed in was awesome!

Back Creek Bridge is new.  Well this bridge is.  On Google, the bridge I was looking at was old and rickety but with a certain charm that drew me in.  Still, this is a stunning inlet and the water is crystal clear.  It has easy access ramps and steps to get in and is the perfect place for us oldies to take a dip.  We enjoyed it here.  Check out the video below.

Jumping off the bridge can be dangerous

NAMBUCCA HEADS

~~oOo~~

We went for a day trip up to Nambucca Heads as I wanted to show hubby one of my favourite spots that I visited as a child.  The caravan park is still here, right at what is called the V-Wall, but it is way more upmarket now.  The photo that I took of the cabins overlooking a small lake is left untouched as I like the misty look.  Looks a bit like some places in Asia.

Swimming here was awesome, nice a safe.  I remembered lots of writing on the rocks.  It is now so much better with all sorts of memories written, painted and even elaborate tiles of memories of people that have passed.  It is well known as the V-Wall Outdoor Art Gallery.

Oh and there is also an Australia Big Thing here.  The Big Pelican.

Hubby was glad that we visited too because he also fell in love with Nambucca Heads.  We will be back.

    MACKSVILLE

~~oOo~~

We stopped at Macksville for our picnic lunch.  Both of us have memories of this old skinny Macksville bridge.  The new highway bypasses Macksville.  I managed to snap a photo of this bridge from the highway.  See below.

Macksville is one place that we both never stopped at.  I has a good vibe.

SCOTTS HEAD

~~oOo~~

We continued on the old road from Macksville to Scotts Head, bypassing the highway for a while.

Scotts Head, a tricky place to launch boats.

Yes, there is a boat ramp right on the beach here.  The boat that we saw coming in from the surf seemed to navigate it like a pro.

There was also a surf school going on here.  Looks like the perfect spot to learn how to surf, smallish waves and easy to get in an out of the surf from the bay at the rock wall.  It was also easy to swim here with a trough in between sand and waves.  There was a bit of weed however, but I don't worry about that.  It was just on the shore.

We checked out the other side of the Surf Life Saving Club and discovered a beautiful scenic beach and rocks.  It looked like a better place for a dip.  On well, we'll be back.  😀

TRIAL BAY BEACH

~~oOo~~

I have always said that Twilight Beach in Esperance is the prettiest beach in Australia due to it's pretty aqua water and the large sandstone rocks.  Yes, the famous Whitehaven Beach in Queensland comes in second for me. 80 mile beach north Western Australia comes in next best.  Anyway, that has now changed.

Looking at Trial Bay beach in South West Rocks, this would have to be my first now.

It has the same aqua water, however there is also blue too.  See the colours?  It also has the sandstone rocks that give it more interest.  But the surroundings are nicer, plus the water is easier to swim in than the Esperance beach.  So now, I can happily say that I have found my new Australia favourite beach.

HORSHOE BAY

~~oOo~~

Horshoe Beach is the main town beach.  There is a caravan park here and accross the road is the Seabreeze Hotel and a few very expensive clothes shops.  It looks like an easy place to swim with big bulky waves and not much white wash.  Check out the video below.

If you walk back around the headland here you will come to my new favourite beach that you just read about.  Yes South West Rocks has it all.

    TRIAL BAY GOAL BEACH

~~oOo~~

This is right at the other end of the above beach and called Trial Bay Goal Beach because of the old Goal ruins nearby.  We didn't visit them but I believe there is an interesting history attached.

This was one of the first beaches that we checked out before we found the other ones.

Up at this end it is more deserted and untouched.

SEABREEZE HOTEL

~~oOo~~

We visited the pub here not long after we arrived in South West Rocks.

Our lunch snack was ok.  I am finding it very hard to get good buffalo chicken wings these days and certainly not the way that I make therm.  These ones were covered with a sweet chilli sauce (yuuuk) and certainly not the hot smokey buffalo sauce that I thought they would have on.  3 Stars on Google for me.  2 Stars for the entertainment.  Sunday Sesh was good.  See video below.

SOUTH WEST ROCKS NRMA CARAVAN PARK

~~oOo~~

I am becoming very peeved at the cost of caravan parks these days.  They are certainly capitalising on more Australians choosing the caravan holiday as financial pressures exclude overseas holidays more and more,

Here was no exception at $57 a night.  I am happy to pay $40, but anything over that would need to be extraodinary to get a raving review from me.  The NRMA Caravan Park in South West Rocks, just a little out of town got just that.

From the time of booking through to our last day, we found this caravan park to be perfect!  I stuffed up our previous booking at Crescent Head, and it's a good thing I did.  See Crescent Head page for the full story.  So when I called South West Rocks, the lady could not have been more helpful.  At that time, I was so frustrated with myself that I didn't pay attention to the cost.  Thank goodness.

The nice lady gave us free NRMA Caravan Park membership for 1 year.  How good is that!

This caravan park is geared for kids.  There is so much for kids to do, it's amazing.  And yes, even though holiday season is finished, there were still heaps of kids.  They have a pool, water park complete with ship, jumping castles, kids play room,  billiards, air hocky & gaming machines.  Also mini golf, Tennis Court and outdoor cinema.  I also see advertised for the holiday season, activities that include how to make damper and how to survive in the bush etc.

We had a good site without anyone on one side and next to a nice camp kitchen.  We were close to the clothes lines and facilities.  Our whole experience here was great and warants the $57 per night that we paid.

~~oOo~~

On our last day here, a kangaroo decided to join us.  We had seen a few bounding through the park and thought that was pretty cool.  Hubby fed him some cerial and the rest of Tookie's apple.

Don't worry Tookie, we will buy another apple today for you.
