Glen Innes

~~oOo~~

This is a small page as there's not much to do in Glen Innes.

We needed to come here to escape Cyclone Alfred.  We were a bit nervous about towing the van over the range but it wasn't as bad as we had imagined.

Glen Innes is a small country town in the highlands that has a Celtic heritage.  Did you know that Glen Innes has it's own tartan?  It is even included in the official Tartan Registery of Scotland.  The town hosts an annual Celtic Festival.

It is a short walk into town from where we stayed at the Fossiker Caravan Park.  Yes, this area is also well known for gems.  The Information Centre not only sells all sorts of stuff made out of it's nice blue Tartan colours, but also gems and gem jewelry.  A tad too expensive for me, but I enjoyed the free browse.

In town we found a lot of old heritage buildings.  The Town Hall was very impressive.  They are currently putting in more street flower beds.  If the old ones are anything to go by, this little main street in Glen Innes will look gorgeous in a couple of weeks time.

Our son Dylan met up with us here and stayed in our tent for a couple of nights.  Dylan has just come from Western Australia and moving to a new home in Brisbane.  Good move.

 OLD DISUSED TRAIN STATION

~~oOo~~

What a shame that they have let this go to rack & ruin.  😒

You can see a lot of history in this old building.  There was even a bar at one stage.  Imagine waiting for the train in the bar?  Not a bad idea.

Aparently at one stage it was a restaurant.  Don't know why that was discontinued.  I can see an old carriage sitting here and transferred into a restaurant we pre-dining at the station bar.

LITTLE LLANGOTHLIN NATURE RESERVE

~~oOo~~

Dylan and I decided that this would be a good drive to check out the scenery.

Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve is aparently the home of up to 100 different species birds.  Well there weren't many when we visited.  They probably knew the Cyclone was coming.  Birds have a 6th sense for these things.

Well it wasn't the best decision.  There's not much to do here.  The drive was nice anyway.

Plus we saw a fixer-upper on the way back.  Or was that a knocker-downer?

😕
