WOODFORD

~~oOo~~

Back near my old stomping grounds, we used Woodford as a base for me to show Hubby around where I grew up.  Still not certain what impact the Cyclone had on the coastline, we didn't want to risk it by staying on the coast.  Woodford is up in the hills about 20 minutes from Caboolture which is a suburb in the greater northern region of Brisbane.

We stayed at the Showgrounds which was $30 a night and quite reasonable in comparison to Caravan Parks these days who charge anything above $45 to over $60 which unless there is a reason to charge that much, is way over priced in my opinion.  We had power, water and facilities to use and the town centre is not that far away.

As it was still raining on and off, I found all sorts of fungi close to our van, so couldn't wait to do a bit of macro photography playing my pretty little lamp that produces different colours.

The Woodford Hotel in town is very welcoming with a good country vibe, bringing the outdoors inside with it's greenery and large airy dining area.  We shared spring rolls and Lunch special chicken snitty.  Great price and just enough for both of us.  I totally recommend this Pub.

KILCOY

~~oOo~~

Kilcoy has always been an artyfarty place.  Located not to far from Woodford, we decided to have a BBQ picnic lunch here.  We drove via the big Wivenhoe Lake at Villeneuve which made for a nice photo opportunity.

Yowie Park in the centre of Kilcoy was busy with picnic'ers but the park is large enough for us not to feel too crowded.  We found a BBQ that was not being used and table and chairs nearby the nice lake here.

There were a few art, crafts and gift shops nearby that we enjoyed a looksee, along with a little trip down memory lane at the Hall of History.  I bought a cute little pink phone bling and cute bee earings and caravan earings.  Later, when speaking to daughter Kelli, I found out something that I did not know about my daughter.  She loves honey bees and has all sorts of honey bee trinkets so of course I gladly said that she can have the bee earings.  And now I will be on the lookout for more cute honey bee stuff to send to Kelli.

LITTLE TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

~~oOo~~

Yes, that is my old house.

Our street address used to be Dakabin Road, Kallangur.  It has changed over the years, becoming Narrangba Road, Kallangur, Narrangba Road, Dakabin and now I see our house has an actual street address, being 101 Narangba Road, Kurwongbah.

Our surroundings were bush with a couple of neighbours, each side.  Our house is the second one in from Torrens Road.  We had a 3/4 acre block with a view of Lake Kurwongbah and the mountains from our backyard.  That is until the pine tree plantation grew up and obstructed our view.  I used to drive the old EH Holden around the pine tree fire breaks behind us.  We used to fang it with 4 kids on one pushy down Torrens Road which was dirt in those days.  We rode our push bikes everywhere and played in the bush on the other side of the road all the way to the railway line.  Now, there's a lot of houses there instead.  But the whole area still has a lot of bush which is nice.  Btw, the old shed is still there too.  We used to climb up the tree and on to the shed and play the Jupitor 2, Lost in Space.

Our water tower at the top end of Narangba Road is now painted, as you can see from the photo below.

We then drove to my old school, Kallangur State Primary School.  Still has the pool that the public helped save for with bales out the front of the school that we filled with newspapers and milk bottle tops.  Still the same school colours, green & yellow.   Yuuk.  My sports house Oxley was green.  I remember wishing so much to be in the red house, Kenney.  Or even the blue house, Bowen.

On to Strathpine and Pine Rivers High School.  It was different to last time I visited with my good friend Glenys in 2006.  The entrance had been changed which confused me.  So it didn't feel like my old high school.  However, still has the pool which was one thing I am thankful for.  Learning to swim at a young age at both primary and high school was the best.  Again, Pine Rivers High School uniform is still green & yellow.  I couldn't get away from those colours!  Still don't like green & yellow.  My house Tingilly was...... guess?
Yep, yellow.

REDCLIFFE

~~oOo~~

Redcliffe was our local beach.   My friend Jeanette and I enjoyed our trips to the beach, climbing up and playing in the bush between roadway and beach when we were sick of swimming.  I remember Jeanette's mum buying us fish and chips at the shop on the other side of the road up the hill here.  The fish was obviously hake or flake, but to me it was the best tasting fish ever!  And reason why is that dad used to love going to Moreton Bay fishing in our little tinny and invarioubly caught bream or mullot.  Mum cooked it up and they both raved about how good this fresh fish was.  I reakon it's because it was free and mum was being nice and agreeing with dad.  I hated that 'freshly caught' fish.  Give me Jeanette's mum's shop bought fish any day!!
😎

Now Settlement Cove Lagoon is in this spot.  It has been here for a while because my good friend Glenys brought us here when we visited in 2006.  It is definitely an improvement being a safe, free swimming spot for locals and visitors alike and picturesque.

MORETON BAY BOAT CLUB

~~oOo~~

Ahhhh, seafood!  Mmmmm.

Looking for a nice place for lunch, I found Moreton Bay Boat club up the road.
What a wonderful place for a seafood feast.  Our son Dylan joined us for lunch as he had only just moved to Brisbane.

Our shared lunch was absolutely awesome!  Redcliffe/Scarborough area has always been a great place for fresh seafood.  This feast was The Best!  Complete with Moreton Bay bugs (sweetest meat and on par with WA Marron), huge sweet fresh prawns!  Fresh Oysters and muscles as well a fish bites and scallops.  Chips were done to perfection.  I didn't have any of the pizza but both Hubby and Dylan said it was juicy and plenty of toppings.   Hubby couldn't resist afters.  I had a wee taste of his apple pie with icecream and cream, and I also agree that it was very tasty.

We both would come back here in a flash!

BRIBIE ISLAND

~~oOo~~

It's a shame that rain is still hanging around after the Cyclone.  Bribie Island received the full impact from Cyclone Alfred and we could see big dozers here sorting out the beach front.

Still, Hubby could imagine how nice Bribie Island would be on a bright, sunny day.  Not all of Bribie is built up.  The northern parts are still mainly natural with 4x4 roads and camping on the beach.  I remember dad driving on the beach here and getting bogged.  But that didn't bother him.   He just whipped out a bit of carpet, dug a hole under the front tyre, replaced with carpet and off we went.
😄

So here, we drove across the island to the beach on the other side which was where we used to come on a day trip from home.  We had a snack at the cafe here and then drove back another way to Brennan Park for our picnic.  All in all, a nice day out.
