TANNUM SANDS
Again, we chose to stay inland from the beach as the cost of staying in a Caravan Park on the coast has become too expensive for us. More about Benaraby later.
Tannum Sands is not too far from the coast, about 10 minutes. There are big housing developments here. It seems that it is now a southern suburb of Gladstone, another 10 or so minutes north. We didn't visit Gladstone.
The beaches in Tannum Sands are very pretty. We finally saw the sun after so many days of constant rain. The only problem now was that my camera kept fogging up due to the humidity in the air. I will have to get it acclimitised. So for now, I am using my phone to take photos. Not really happy with the photos from the phone so consequently, this page is rather small.
Here we are entering box jellyfish and crocodile territory. The box jellyfish usually disappear in April and crocs are not seen here much, but we were still a little nervous in taking a dip. So we didn't venture too far in the surf. Just enough to lay down and let the water wash over us.
Later, whilst we were having our picnic, we saw 2 elderly gentlemen go in and swim right out there. So that made us feel a bit better.

BENARABY

We thought $35 was good for a van site with power & water. But in comparison with our stay at Miriam Vale Roadhouse at $25 per night, $35 here is too much.
Yes it had a pool, but so did the Roadhouse, and their pool was sparkling clean. The rest of the place is run down and in need of a total spruce up. Tiles in the facilities require a good scrub. The camp kitchen was dirty and just needs a bit of tender loving care. Lawns required mowing and some of the local residents needed a bit of a talking to in relation to rubbish around their digs. Don't get me started on the big industrial bins. Yuuk.
Anyway, after spending a fortune staying in previous caravan parks due to the relentless rain, we badly needed to tighten the budget.

Just south from here, over the river, there is a stop and revive rest area complete with a small coffee and donut van. Nice fresh donuts and I am told the coffee here is good too. I am not fussed with buying coffee. I don't understand that concept? Why buy, when you have perfectly good Moccona coffee at home that tastes much better most times?
Anyway, we stopped here with the van and grabbed our chairs and sat down to listen to the bird wildlife whilst eating our donut.
Here are a few phone photos of the cute rosellas. I still don't like the way my phone takes photos. Seems to create squiggles. I had to blur the purple colour on the bird's head as it looked too squiggly.
